A Comparison of Cats and Dogs

Cats and dogs represent two totally different characters. In fact, people even classify themselves as either a dog person or a cat person. Cats and dogs are usually compared to each other because they are the favorite pet of the entire world. If someone wants to get a pet they definitely consider buying a cat or a dog. There is a great difference between having a cat as a pet and dog as a pet. If you are confused between buying a dog or a cat you should try to understand their personalities first.

Cats are independent creature while dogs are more social. A dog will come to you running when you return from home and start licking you while a cat might stay at her cushion. Do not think that cats are cold at heart. They might seem indifferent but they do love you like your other pets. They just show their affection whenever they feel like doing so. Quite contrary to the common belief, cats do not like solitude.

Cat Dog Pet

Cats are territorial creatures. That is they adapt to the surroundings as well as the people around them. Dogs are just into people. They get attached to only their owners. IF you take a dog to a new home or office they will be happy as long as you stay with them; while cats might get scared and anxious if you take them away from their home.

A Comparison of Cats and Dogs

Dogs can be trained easily by showing them affection and rewarding for their appropriate action. It is hard to teach a cat like this. You can teach a dog to "sit" in five minutes, but it will take weeks to teach a cat to sit. The same thing goes with bad behavior. You can teach a dog what not to do by showing anger or hitting him gently. But his negative reinforcement never works with cats. If they sense danger they will just avoid punishment by running away. See the dog behaves as a group member and stays with the group even if it is punished. The cat; although a part of the group; is independent and will always try to evade punishment.

Cats will share their territory with others as long as they are kept satisfied and their basic needs are met. If you love your cat it will love you back but don't expect it to show affection all the time. It will come and sit besides when it wants to be loved.

Cats and dogs both make a wonderful pet and great addition to your family. With proper care and attention both cats and dogs can be taught all the necessary habits that are demanded from a pet. Both are loving and amiable; although they show their love in different ways. So if you are confused on whether to get a dog or a cat; just ask the question "Are you a dog person or a cat person?"

K9 Advantix - An Effective Cat Killer

K9 Advantix is an extremely effective topical flea control treatment.  It will kill all of the fleas on your dog within 12 hours and take out your housecat, too!

A little over a year ago, I used Advantix on my black lab mix.  I marveled at how well it worked.   He stopped scratching.  There were no fleas to be found!  Whoo-hoo!  It seemed to me that I won the battle.  It didn't take me long to notice that our cat had stopped eating.  Then drinking.  Then walking.  I rushed him to the vet and found out that because the cat and dog share the same bedding (mine!) there was a transfer of the product.  My poor cat's liver and kidneys were shutting down because they could not tolerate the poison.  After a 2 day stay in the hospital, the cat bounced back.  It cost me 0 and a number of sleepless nights to learn this lesson.  It could have easily been avoided, if I would have just done a little research.

Cat Dog Pet

Don't get me wrong, if you do not have any cats or small children in the house, this flea treatment is most likely the best on the market.

  • It's active ingredients (Imidacloprid and Permethrin) have been proven to kill both adult fleas and their larvae.
  • It's quick.  Most of the fleas are killed within 12 hours.
  • It repels ticks.
  • It is water resistant.

K9 Advantix - An Effective Cat Killer

There are many benefits to using this highly effective product.  However, I learned the hard way not to use K9 Advantix in my flea fighting efforts.  Now I know that there are safer and just as powerful flea fighters on the market.

Want to safely get rid of fleas? There are safe alternatives to K9 Advantix that are just as mighty in their flea killing powers. Check them out today at GetRidof-Fleas.com

Pet Hair and Dander? Which Vacuum Cleaner is Best For Your Shedding Dog Or Cat?

We love our pets. They shed year round, and that creates problems when vacuuming you home. At our store, The Sweeper Store, in Wooster Oho, we have questions all the time about how to pick up bothersome dog and cat hair. Here are a few things to look for in a vacuum made specifically to pick up pet hair. We hope these ideas help you.

The most important feature on a vacuum cleaner, if you have pets that shed, is the type of brush roller. If your vacuum cleaner has a brush that revolves, you'll see that it picks up pet dander and hair better than a vacuum that has no roller. Roller brushes are not all created equal.

Cat Dog Pet

Natural fiber brushes are the best. They will comb through the toughest carpet, brushing out the pet hair. The big advantage of the natural fiber roller brushes is that the hair will not get trapped around the roller brush. Hair wrapping around a bush causes many problems. It slows down the roller brush, stretching the vacuum cleaner belt. Pet hair clogs up the brushes themselves, making the brushes unable to comb through the carpet fibers. Pet hair can get caught in the roller brush's bearing, causing then bearings to burn out. Frequent replacement of the roller brush is the result. All in all, it's better to use natural bristle brushes when possible. The attachment brushes for dusting, upholstery and bare floors should also be made of natural fibers. These fibers are advertised as "Horse hair" but are in fact boars hair.

Pet Hair and Dander? Which Vacuum Cleaner is Best For Your Shedding Dog Or Cat?

Most pet dander and hair finds itself on the upholstery soon. The pet dander and hair will be found in the car upholstery even if the pet is not allowed in the family car. The pet hair it carried on our clothes, and it finds itself everywhere we live.

A good turbine driven upholstery tool, with a airflow driven revolving brush, will solve most dog and cat hair problems on your upholstery.

Another problem with pet hair is that it will clog up a vacuum cleaner hose if you pick up a hair ball or clump of pet hair at one swipe. The way to solve this problem is to vacuum slowly when using a hose with attachments. You should also vacuum slowly so that your vacuum cleaner is not "gulping" the hair in huge clumps.

Having a powerful vacuum motor will certainly help. Motors are ranked by the number of amps of electricity they use. The more important feature, when picking up pet hair, is how many fans the motor has. A motor with two fans, will pull the air, and also the pet hair, almost fifty percent harder than a motor with one fan.

There are many higher end vacuums that use natural fiber brushes, have motors with double fans, and even have turbine driven brushes for your upholstery cleaning. Most models of vacuums that have the features we talked about are only available from independent vacuum cleaner retailers. There is one in your area.

We hope these ideas helped you.

Pet Food You Buy Causes Cancer & Liver Failure in Your Dog - The Shocking Truth of Dog Food Death!

Do you know what it's like to take your pet, your family member to the vet and to be told that she has Cancer AND Liver Failure and that the best thing they can do is to kill her painlessly there and then? Choking back the tears so you can drive home and explain to your children why their beloved friend isn't there anymore?

I do. And because I know that pain I was infuriated when I learnt that it wasn't just a tragic accident. No, the pet companies are putting lethal illness causing products in our pets food because it's cheaper and gives them a higher profit margin!

Cat Dog Pet

Think about it. More and more pets seem to start to be diagnosed with human sounding fatal and painful diseases:

Pet Food You Buy Causes Cancer & Liver Failure in Your Dog - The Shocking Truth of Dog Food Death!

Stomach Cancer, Chronic Diarrhea, Hair Loss, Major Organ Failure, Bladder Cancer, Immune System Collapse, Kidney Cancer, Birth Defects, Behaviour Problems, Skin Cancer, Liver Dysfunction, Leukemia, Spleen Cancer, Blindness and Severe Allergic Reactions.

Coincidence?

No. I've found out that most commercial dog food contains between 4 and 6 chemicals that have been proved to cause every one of those illness in humans! Yup, they've banned them for human consumption because they aren't just deadly poison but they are deadly poison that kills slowly and painfully!

I know I wouldn't wish any of those diseases on my worst enemy, let alone on my pet who I love. I knew I couldn't really trust big business who would always put profits before quality, but I always imagined that they would never be allowed to actually feed my dog filthy cancer causing food just because it saves them a buck or two. But I was wrong.

The stuff they put in commercial dog food is legally unfit for human consumption. If you sold it to a person to eat you could go to jail for attempted murder... and yet they feed this stuff to your pet. No, they get you to feed that stuff to your pet.

They can obviously never know the pain of a beloved pet lost, of watching your pride and joy yelp with pain and have to make the heart breaking decision to put them down by lethal injection to stop the suffering.

Will a Pit Bull Really Make a Good Pet Dog? Pros and Cons

Find Out Why a Pit Bull Will or Won't Make a Good Pet Dog

The Pit Bull Terrier is probably the most maligned breed of dog in the world. Part of their defamation and name comes from the fact that they can be trained to fight in dog pits. Another factor is that they are the dog of choice of many gang members. Pit Bull has also seemed to become a synonym for toughness and meanness. All of this causes a lot of fear when most people are confronted by one of them.

Cat Dog Pet

A fact that not many people are aware of is that a well trained Pit Bull is one of the most friendly and sweetest dogs you will ever find. Ask people which dogs have either bitten them or tried to bite them and I think you'll find that most will say the little dogs such as the poodles, Chihuahua, dachshunds and such. The reason dogs like Pit Bulls get a bad rap is that they can do a lot of damage when they do bite. I would guess that most of them that bite people have been trained to be mean and aggressive. Another reason they might bite is if someone threatened them or their dog or human family.

Will a Pit Bull Really Make a Good Pet Dog? Pros and Cons

Training is the key for a pet Pit Bull to become a good member of the family. My daughter has a Pit Bull that was among the friendliest dogs I have ever met. I'll admit the first time I visited her after she got the dog I was about ready to get up and run when she opened the back door and this huge Pit Bull came running towards me. She told him to be nice and he instantly started walking, after making sure it was OK, instead of running. The only problem was that he was still coming towards me but I knew my daughter wouldn't let him hurt me so I relaxed. When he reached me I started to pet him and could see he was about to turn himself inside out he was so happy. I was sitting on the couch and he was trying to get into my lap when she told him to come to her. At that point I will have to say my perceptions of Pit changed a huge amount.

I'm convinced that a Pit Bull will make a good pet but now I'll tell you the pros and cons of why you might think about one for a pet. Once you have a sound understanding of this breed, you may want to add a pet Pit Bull to your life.

Pros:

Pit Bulls are people-oriented pets. With proper, consistent training, this breed will be the life of the party.

Pits are genuinely loving. Kissing, cuddling, playing, and being in a person's lap (even though they can weigh up to 50-60 pounds) are their favorite pastimes.

Pleasing the people they live with will be one of your pet Pit Bull's favorite things. They adore making their family happy. Training a Pit can be very satisfying and can even lead to performing in obedience competitions.

These playful pets will chase Frisbees, fetch sticks, run after balls, tussle with their family members, and, generally play until they drop. To say that having one is having fun is an understatement.

Enthusiasm is a Pit Bull's middle name. They are young-at-heart and never outgrow their fun-loving spirit.

Tremendously athletic, the family will be challenged to keep up with this powerful breed.

Pit Bulls are attractive. Their muscular, compact build draws attention wherever they go.

Cons:

The breed has got a bad rap over the years and most people are scared of them, so you can't get your feelings hurt when they avoid your pet Pit Bull.

Pit Bulls must be well supervised around other animals. They tend to be fine unless the other animal show aggression. At this point you and your pet might want to take your leave.

These dogs are the number one dogs stolen from their families in America. Do not leave your pet outside without supervision.

Pits are the Houdinis of the dog world. They can escape from most places, so families must be attentive and determined when attempting to keep their animal safe.

Especially as puppies, this breed can be a handful. A sense of humor will be needed to work through puppy hood with your pet Pit Bull.

Don't let your pet Pit Bull get bored. A bored Pit is going to find something to do, and it might be something unacceptable to the family.

This breed is audacious. They never give up. They are strong-willed and your families will needs to be stronger.

They need plenty of exercise so a large yard is almost a must. Just walking them is not really enough exercise for them. Unless your family is very active you might want to think about another breed.

If you want a guard dog, a Pit is not for you. They usually happily to welcome all who enter the family's yard.

All in all, this breed makes a fine family pet. I can attest to this personally after being with my daughters Pit Bull for a while. These dogs are not what you would call a house dog. Walking them is sometimes a chore as they are strong and if they decide to go a different way you may have a problem holding them back. This is a good reason to make sure they are well trained.

One thing I noticed when we would take my daughters dog for a walk was the wide berth people gave us. This kind of bothered her as she knew how nice her dog was. Another problem with not having a large yard is if you take them to a dog park all of a sudden you look around and your pet Pit Bull is the only dog in the park.

You need to make sure you give your pet Pit Bull lots of attention. But most of all make sure that your family has the resolve, self-discipline, and fortitude to train your pet thoroughly. Unless you are planning to breed your pet you might want to think about spaying or neutering them. This will make them more mellow and easier to train. Remember there are no bad dogs, only uneducated owners. Before you decide one way or the other visit a family who has a well trained pet Pit Bull and you'll see what I'm talking about..

Dog Health Certificate to Travel With Your Pet

Your pet may be an important member of your family and you may wish to take your pet with you when you travel. If you intend to travel to a foreign country, you must take steps to know about various requirements of the destination country for travelers traveling with their pets. You won't be allowed to travel with your pet, if you don't adhere to the provided guidelines. Dog health certificate from a licensed veterinarian is a mandatory requirement to take your pet with you when you travel in a train or flight and cross country borders. This certificate will ensure that your dog does not have any infectious disease and that it can handle traveling stress.

You should approach your vet to get a certificate for your dog ensuring that your pet does not suffer from any serious illness. For interstate and international trips, make sure that your vet gives you an appropriate certificate. Different states and different countries have different pet health certificate requirements and you should be aware of the local laws. Otherwise, your pet will be isolated from you for complete inspection or quarantine.

Cat Dog Pet

Normally, dogs must get health certificate at least 10 days prior to traveling. Older health certificates will not be valid even though different states have different requirements. The health certificate will contain information about vaccination shots given for the dog along with the health conditions of the dog. However, health certificate will not ensure that your pet has good general health. Most of the states in the United States require dogs to be given rabies vaccination shot 30 days prior to travel. This does not apply for puppies less than 6 months old since they don't have rabies threat according to US public health service.

Dog Health Certificate to Travel With Your Pet

Some airlines don't allow your dog to be shipped as baggage, however, you can have the dog shipped as cargo. Along with the certificate, name and address of the shipper must be mentioned. Age and pregnancy status of the pet should also be specified in the health certificate. The pet owner must also state that the pet is acclimated to lower temperatures not lower than 20 degree F if the pet is carried in winter. To ensure that your pet doesn't suffer during traveling, call the destination embassy well ahead of travel to know the current laws about dog health certificate requirements.

Pet Food Marketing - How to Get Your Treats Noticed!

Pet food marketing, in case you haven't noticed, is fiercely competitive. I was in a Pet Smart just this week and when I found the dog treat section - it looked like a giant glossy wall of advertisements - a 9 foot wall, shouting different claims at me. I just stared in amazement and thought - how do pet owners wade through the wall-o-treats full of pet food marketing mania and decide what to buy. So, I asked a guy who was standing there, also looking somewhat shell shocked. He said "I buy the duck flavored ones. My Joey will not eat anything but those, and they're all out." He was waiting for the pet store worker to come from the back room after checking for any stock back there. They were out back there too. Joey's owner was crushed. Said he would come back when the next shipment was to arrive.

Some things sank in for me and reiterated to me some basic concepts that I have learned in my dog treat baking:

Cat Dog Pet

1. Dog treats is an extremely competitive business,
2. Dog owners, much like their 4 legged companions are very loyal,
3. Setting yourself apart from the pack of other bakers is one of the most important parts of building your successful business.

Pet Food Marketing - How to Get Your Treats Noticed!

You have to get noticed, get customers excited about your treats, and make the sale. Pet food marketing or specifically, dog treat marketing, is about taking a customer from thinking "oh that is a cute / neat / great product" to "oh that is a cute / neat / great product. I need that for my dog." Think about that for a minute. You want people to NEED your treats. You want your customer be be just like Joey's owner - standing at the wall-o-treats, determined to find that one kind and willing to come back later in the week because they didn't have it.

Let's be honest. Most of you aren't slaving away working 2 jobs, staying up all hours of the night scouring the web for help because you're bored. And I know that many of you are in fact working that hard. Most likely you are

• Very passionate about your dog(s)
• Love all dogs for that matter
• You have passion to make great treats
• You wouldn't mind generating a decent income from customers buying your dog treats and enjoying your hard work

So, how do you get noticed? How do you take all this passion and turn it into a successful business that brings you fulfillment. A good strategy to market your treats is critical to making this happen. Some things to consider as you get into pet product marketing and specifically dog treat marketing. Understanding each of these activities and going through each of these exercises will help you to better define where you want to go and how to reach your customers and have them say "I need that dog treat (your dog treat) for my dog."

Build a better dog treat
One way to set yourself apart from your competitors and build a solid pet product marketing plan is to build a better dog treat than is out there today. Is there something unique about your dog treat? No allergens, no fat, low calories, different shapes, specialty flours / ingredients, decorated gourmet treats, organic, you use "orange blossom honey" and hand stone ground chicory root flour - do any of these apply to your product? Do you oven bake your treats in a brick fire oven? Is there something about the way you prepare them that no one else is doing? Building a unique product may open up a group of customers that no one else is tending to. This is definitely one way to effectively start your pet product marketing plan. This is called niche marketing.

Define your market
Where do you plan on selling your dog treats? This will help you build your dog treat marketing plan. Defining how, where and to whom you want to sell your treats will be critical. If you plan on selling your dog treats at a local farmer's market every Saturday, then the packaging you might select, the ingredients you might want to use would be very different than if you wanted to sell your treats at a local independently owned pet store. Or, if you plan on selling your treats at a vets office or selling them in a gift boutique - all of these situations would warrant very different strategies.

For example, at the farmer's market, I may have the treats open to the air in the traditional market place style with little paw print paper bags to place the treats in as people purchased the treats they wanted by the ½ pound, where as in a boutique, I may want to display my treats in a very cute basket display, and in the vets office - a very traditional carton type package may work best. The customer at each of these places is probably looking for very different types of products as well. So how you market your pet products to those individuals will differ. Build your treat for the people who will be shopping where you sell.

Know your competition
So, in order to build a better dog treat, you need to know what everyone else is building, especially those folks that are on your turf. We can call this pet product marketing research. Go to the places that you want to sell and look at what the folks are doing that are already there. Talk to the pet store owners and find out what they like about certain treats, and what they don't like. Use this information to help you decide what you want to do differently. Be sure to understand the prices that your competitors are charging and what their pack size is. Evaluate their display and any literature that they may have provided the store owners.

You can even buy some of the competitor's products and take them home and try them out yourself. Don't just limit your assessment to the treats - really check out the packaging too. Is there an issue with the packaging, can you build a treat that goes in a more environmentally friendly package than your competition? Dissecting your competition is a critical part of being successful in the market place. And even after you have gotten your products out there, making sure that your competition isn't reclaiming your territory will be important. Your will need to continue your pet product marketing research. This exercise of walking the stores, surfing the web and reviewing competitive product is important.

Out price your competition
Another way, besides building a unique dog treat, to effectively market your dog treats is to out price your competition. You may not have to build anything unique - your price may be so good that the store owners / customers will jump at the opportunity to use your product. Using pricing to help sell your products is one strategy to building your customer base. Your margins might be a little less than your competitors, but you can make up the difference in volume.

Support your products
One of the things that we learned going into independent pet stores and talking to owners about what made products successful was the in store support that we provided along with our treats. They said that having some kind of sign / pamphlets / in store promotions were all keys to success in the pet stores.

So if when you bring your dog treats to a store owner to sell your products, you also bring a neat display idea, some signs to hang up, and you commit to coming once a month to do a sampler display for 2 hours on a Saturday so that their customers can try your treats - they LOVE that. You are helping them to sell the products that they carry - and at the same time, sell your own products.

At a farmer's market - you may also want to do a free sampler Saturday - and give away some of your treats. This gets people excited about your products, and also they get to trust you. You standing behind your products, providing support to store owners or letting dog owners have their dogs try your products will go a long way to building a loyal customer base.

These are just a few ideas to help you in getting your treats noticed.

Diabetic Cat Food Recipes

If you have ever lived with someone developing diabetes as my own father did, you will be aware that they suffer certain symptoms which are:-

1. Excessive Thirst

Cat Dog Pet

2. Excessive hunger

Diabetic Cat Food Recipes

3. Excessive urination

4. Weight loss.

Your cat will show just such symptoms, if you notice these you should take it to your vet as soon as possible for a check up. So what IS diabetes?

Briefly just this. The cells in our cat's body just as in ours, require energy. This energy comes from glucose and we get that from the food we eat. This food gets broken down, some of which becomes glucose and enters the bloodstream and is used by the cells for energy.

Insulin - a hormone, lets this glucose move from the bloodstream and into the cells. Unfortunately in diabetes there is little or no insulin and without that the glucose cannot get from the bloodstream and into the body cells. The cells don't get glucose and think they are starving just as we would and your cat does.

So what do both we and our cats do? We eat and eat to satisfy our hunger. The situation is made worse because the glucose we store in the fat and muscles of our bodies, normally for emergencies, gets released into the bloodstream to feed the cells. It becomes a vicious circle as more glucose enters the bloodstream but without insulin will not get into the cells. The glucose levels in the blood climb higher, with still no insulin it has nowhere to go.

The cells of course cannot get their sugar so even more fat and muscle are burned to feed them, so we and our cat have a huge appetite but also a weight loss

Why the excessive thirst? As explained, all that extra sugar in the blood has to go somewhere. Our and out cat's kidneys are designed to prevent glucose been lost in urine. In diabetes there is so much sugar in the urine the kidneys become overwhelmed, so sugar is excreted in the urine. For this to be successful it has to be of the right consistency and in the form of liquid. The result? Large quantities of water are drunk and so of course equal amounts of urine are produced. It will seem as if your poor cat is drinking buckets of water but with no satisfaction.

So rule No 1 is if you see any of these symptoms in your pet take it to your vet. The disease can be treated with diet, exercise, insulin or some combination of these.

Is there anything you can do?

Don't let your cat become a "couch potato"! Do not give your cat "treats", most are groaning with calories. Remember the domestic cat came out of the savannahs of Africa and was and still is a natural hunter, its diet raw meat. Sadly the whole lifestyle of the cat is changing, many do not even have a garden, many are literally housebound. The result, as for us, is that they become overweight, eat far too much, become bored and lazy. They have no stimulation and their natural instinct to hunt is suppressed.

Our own two cats exercise outside constantly and hunt too. OK so we do have to clear up some grisly messes once in a while! Cats have a dual personality, a wild side that loves to hunt and roam and a domestic side to them where they just want our companionship. Sadly many owners are now too frightened to let their cats outside the house thinking it is too dangerous. Over all the years we have owned cats we have never lost one except to plain old age or disease (before we found out what went into commercial cat food and started making our own)

You can feed your diabetic cat yourself, we think it's the best way and always use lean meats, low carbohydrate, NO SUGAR and add a few vegetables

One important thing to consider is to keep meals regular just as would happen to one of us with diabetes. There is hope so don't despair!

Don't forget, though, that cats have different nutritional needs to humans so it's the diet principles ones follows not the actual diet.

Tips to Prevent Runny Stools in Your Dog and Cat

There is a problem many pet owners can relate to and that is dog and cat diarrhea. Runny stools are a very common problem with pet owners. Stomach and digestive disorders are usually a result of something they ate from the garbage, changes in the food they are given, viruses, overeating and certain diseases like cancer and parasites in their intentional tract.

Above all make sure your pet has a healthy diet and don't give them people food especially chocolate or milk. They must have plenty of water and exercise to keep the bowels healthy.
